Karen & Brian’s 5 Year Anniversary Sneak Peek
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love my job!
One of the best parts of my job is being able to work with the same clients over and over again. I love documenting a child’s growth or helping a couple or family mark a special milestone.
At the beginning of this month I was so lucky to get the chance to travel back to New Orleans and capture 5 year anniversary portraits for one of my past couples, Mr. & Mrs. Holliday!
I love when I meet my clients in unusual ways, and the story of how I met Karen and Brian is one of my favorites. I was living in New Orleans in the summer of 2010 in the wake of the BP Oil Drilling Disaster that pumped devastating amounts of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. I was spending the summer going door to door raising money for the Gulf Restoration Network and guess who’s door I knocked on! As Karen was signing up to donate she said “We’re planning on having an oyster bar at our wedding in November so hopefully this will bring us some good karma.” I mentioned that I was actually a wedding photographer, gave her my info, and the next thing I knew she had booked me!
Karen and Brian are both Marines and their beautiful wedding (that happened to take place at the Historic Saint Louis Cathedral in the heart of the French Quarter!) was themed around their love for their service. From the red and blue colors, to the military salute, to them cutting their cake with a sword! Their big day was recently featured on The Knot! Check it out here: A Military Wedding
I have kept in touch with Karen over the past 5 years and her and Brian have come a long way! They now own a home in Algiers Point in New Orleans but unfortunately they don’t always get to spend as much time there together as they may like. Being in the Military they are often traveling around the country and the world. They are no doubt a very inspiring couple. They really put their hearts into their service and what they do and from what I’ve seen they are also a very strong couple to go through those separations. They are always having fun when they are together. I love couples that can playfully pick on each other and our 5 year anniversary session was non-stop teasing! I love it!
Not only did I love having the chance to work with this couple again but I was so ecstatic to get to do a session in New Orleans for the first time in about 3 years! The French Quarter is the perfect portrait location. There is no shortage of things to point my camera at! It was also so cool to be able to start and end their anniversary session at the same location where they got married almost 5 years ago!
